KALIBO, Aklan – Police shot and killed a suspected drug pusher in Malay town.
The 30-year-old Allan Rivero, a native of Davao City, was the first casualty in a police antidrug operation in Aklan since Oplan Double Barrel — the Philippine National Police’s intensified campaign against drugs — was launched in July.
Armed with a .45 pistol, Rivero fired at the police after selling a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer, prompting the other officers to shoot back, the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group claimed.
The operation happened around 10:40 p.m. on Nov. 9 in Barangay Argao, Malay — around 4 kilometers away from the jetty port in Barangay Caticlan where Western Visayas’ top suspected drug lord Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr. was killed in August.
The jetty port is the jump-off point to Boracay. Rivero was temporarily staying in Barangay Yapak in the island.
Rivero sustained three gunshot wounds on the body. His remains were taken to a funeral parlor in Argao.
Operation leader Inspector Clark Philip Dinco said the suspect was selling shabu to foreign and local tourists in the island resort.
“He (Rivero) peddles huge packs of shabu, especially to big-time clients,” said Dinco.
He was also allegedly involved in gun-for-hire activities and would claim to be connected with government agencies, the officer said.
“Scene of the crime operatives recovered from him several IDs he might have used in drug activities,” said Dinco.
Police have conducted two test buys with Rivero in Caticlan and Boracay within the two months he was under surveillance before Wednesday’s operation. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
