BORACAY – Police were verifying if the 12 “lady boys” caught in an antidrug operation in Barangay Balabag were selling drugs to their customers.
The “lady boys” — a colloquial term referring to gay men prostitutes — were caught in a hotel room on Nov. 6.
Senior Inspector Jess Baylon, Boracay police chief, said the suspects were “drug couriers.”
Mark Anthony Galicia, the target of the operation around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, was their direct link to their source in Manila, he said.
According to Baylon, Galicia and his cohorts tend to transfer from one hotel or resort to another to evade arrest.
On Sunday the management of the hotel tipped off the police. It asked the authorities for anonymity.
Aside from freelance sex work, the “lady boys” also allegedly supply drugs to their customers, who were mostly tourists.
“We are still investigating this report,” Baylon said. “For now what’s important is they were caught and detained.”
Galicia was charged with violating section 5 (sale) and 6 (maintenance of a drug den) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
His other companions were charged with violating Section 7 (visiting a drug den).
They were John Barry Camua, Aldwin Kirk Abello, John Aldrin Francisco, Jeston Tonic, Michael Dave Salcedo, Hilmar Celestino, Alvin Calitizen, Harlie Verano, Rommel Sollano, Kim Delicano, and Rafael Ybañez, all residents of Balabag.
The charges were filed at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Kalibo, Aklan on Nov. 8.
All 12 suspects were detained at the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center lockup cell.
Police seized 20 sachets of shabu worth an estimated P50,000 and several drug paraphernalia during the operation./PN
