ILOILO City – Guns and ammunition were found in the house of an alleged illegal firearm manufacturer in Barangay Tuburan, Pototan, Iloilo.
Municipal police officers arrested Herbert Biñas, 45, after the search on the evening of March 1.
Senior Inspector Bonifacio Alabe, Pototan police chief, said they believe Biñas supplies firearms to gun-for-hire criminals.
Recovered from the house were a homemade M16 with ammunition, a .38 revolver, ammunition for a 12-gauge shotgun and a .38 revolver, magazines, two lever receivers, a carbine volt, and various tools.
Police searched the house on the strength of a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 68 Judge Vicente Go.
Biñas was “manufacturing homemade guns without license.” He is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, said Alabe.
The suspect told the Pototan police he was no longer engaged in the illegal activity for more than two years now, but Alabe insisted they received information that Biñas was still in business.
Alabe said Biñas was engaged in the same trade in Abra province but went home to Pototan after police raided their “temporary manufacturing house.”/PN
