Altercation leads to fatal stabbing

BACOLOD City – An altercation led to a fatal stabbing in Sitio Toril, Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, Negros Occidental, a police report showed.

The 63-year-old resident Joel Vallera sustained a stab wound on the armpit. He was rushed to the Vicente Gustilo District Hospital in Escalante City, Negros Occidental where attending physician Dr. Lenlie Barredo pronounced him “dead on arrival.”

Police identified the suspect as Vallera’s 55-year-old neighbor Ben Robert Bunda.

Bunda sustained hack wounds on the left arm, chest, hand, and right foot, police said.

Investigation revealed that it was Vallera who first attacked Bunda with a bolo while the latter was attending to his mango trees around 7:15 a.m. on Sunday.

Bunda was able to disarm Vallera and retaliated, the investigators added.

It was not immediately clear what triggered Bunda and Vallera’s altercation.

Bunda surrendered to the Toboso municipal police station, where he is currently detained.

Appropriate charges will be filed against Bunda in court, police said./PN
