SAN JOSE, Antique – A total of 27 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) each received P10,000 in livelihood assistance from the provincial government here.
Gov. Rhodora Cadiao led the distribution at the capitol lobby in this capital own on July 21, according to Provincial Development Officer III Guilly Clemente.
Clemente said on July 22 the OFWs who benefited from the livelihood assistance were the ones who came home before the community quarantine was imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019. The overseas workers opted to remain in the province.
“The OFWs who were recipients intend to use their assistance to start up their sari-sari stores,” he added.
Prior to receiving the livelihood aid, each of the OFWs had to attend a seminar conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry provincial office where they were taught of making a business plan.
“The business plan is one of the requirements for them to receive the assistance,” said Clemente.
The Provincial Planning and Development Office, particularly the OFW Desk, also did a background check on the applicants.
“We are just appealing to the OFWs to really make their livelihood sustainable so that they would still have a source of living even if they no longer work abroad,” said Clemente.
Last March 4, the provincial government also released to 10 OFWs P10,000 livelihood assistance each. These overseas workers now have sari-sari business in their respective municipalities.
Since 2016, the provincial government has been giving aid to OFWs who opted to remain in the country. (With a report from PNA/PN)
