BORACAY – A traveling artist from Austria held an art workshop in the Ati community here.
“Whenever I do art and travel, I want to give back and help the local community,” said Christoph Band, who works commonly highlight peace and unity.
Along with 17 children aged 3 to 13 years from the Boracay Ati Tribal Organization, Band painted a blank canvass with their respective interpretations of peace on Feb. 11 at the Tubuanan Ati Learning Center in Sitio Tulubhan, Barangay Manoc-manoc.
Through art, children were able to express their feelings and imaginations without limitation, the artist said.
And “I want to inculcate in children the value of peace. I want them to realize that we are all connected in this world,” said Band.
The Austrian artist was also the founder and president of Earth Charter Austria, which was part of the global movement of organizations and individuals campaigning for a just, sustainable and peaceful world.
A teacher for the indigenous community, Lourdes Tamboon, said the activity enabled the children to understand peace better and express what they felt.
This was not the first time Band held such activity in Boracay.
In 2015 he also led an art workshop with children of the volunteer’s organization Babies of Boracay. (PNA)
