AKLAN – Police arrested an incumbent barangay captain for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in a raid in Barangay Dalipdip, Altavas town at around 8:50 a.m. on February 1.

Joint elements of the Altavas Municipal Police Station and the Aklan Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Intelligence Unit seized from Barangay Dalipdip captain Edelberto Domingo, 52, a loaded 12-gauge break-type shotgun and additional 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

Also recovered were a loaded shotgun barrel, assorted ammunition for caliber .22, a loaded caliber .22 revolver with a defaced serial number, air pellet gun fitted with a silencer and scope, along with a brown sling bag used to store some of the seized items.

Domingo is currently under police custody and will face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

Following the arrest, Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), emphasized that public office does not place anyone above the law.

“This operation underscores our firm stance that no one is exempt from accountability. Barangay officials are entrusted with maintaining peace and order in their communities, and they must lead by example. PRO-6 will continue to strictly enforce the law to protect the safety and security of the public,” Ligan said./PN
