BACOLOD City — A suspect linked to a murder case was arrested in a coordinated police operation in Sitio Buros, Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, on February 2.
The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old man identified as alias “Rom,” who ranked ninth on the region’s most wanted list.
Authorities served a warrant of arrest for murder through the joint efforts of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station (MPS), the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (PIU-NOCPPO), and the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU).
Police said the suspect, who allegedly harbored a grudge against the victim, together with two companions, stabbed the victim following a drinking session.
The victim was reported missing for several days before his remains were later discovered in a sugarcane plantation.
The suspect is now under the custody of the La Castellana MPS for proper legal proceedings.
PRO-NIR said the arrest underscores its continuing commitment to tracking down fugitives and ensuring accountability for violent crimes.
Authorities added that manhunt operations against remaining wanted persons will be intensified to further strengthen public safety across the Negros Island Region./PN
