THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) exceeded its target collection for the first month of 2024 with a P1.5-billion surplus.
Assistant Secretary Vincent Philip Maronilla, Customs spokesperson, attributed the increased collection to the BOC’s program to strictly monitor the entry of goods, address smuggling and plug revenue leakages, and improve the BOC’s systems and the welfare of its employees.
“Sumobra kami sa mahigit kumulang P1.5 billion na surplus. Ang target namin is supposed to be P71.779 billion lang, pero ang nakolekta ng Bureau of Customs is P73.329 billion,”
Maronilla said in a televised briefing.
He continued, “Inaasahan namin na makukuha namin ang mga target namin within the next few months pa hanggang buong taon na target. Hindi lang po doon, nagsusumikap kami na makakamit po ng malaking surplus para makatulong sa pagpopondo ng ating pamahalaan.”
The BOC is targeting to collect almost P1 trillion for 2024.
“But we are trying to achieve na makakolekta ng mahigit isang trilyong piso. Ang aming target ay kulang-kulang isang trilyong piso… and we are planning to reach more than that.” (ABS-CBN News)
