BSP looking into ‘misprinted’ P100 bills

MANILA – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Thursday said it is now looking into supposedly misprinted P100 bills, urging the public to present such banknotes for verification.

In a post on its official social media accounts, the central bank said it now investigating the misprinted P100 bills with the illustration of the late President Manuel A. Roxas rendered with a split upper right lip.

“The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has noted social media posts referring to alleged misprinted P100-piso banknotes and is looking into the matter,” it said.

The P100 bills were said to have been withdrawn from an automated teller machine in Quezon City.

According to BSP deputy governor Diwa Guinigundo, the central bank has yet to verify the authenticity of the bills.

“No one has submitted to us those alleged defective notes. Impossible to comment on its authenticity,” he said in a text message.

“We request individuals who have alleged misprinted banknotes in their possession to bring them to the nearest BSP Branch/Regional Office or in Quezon City (East Avenue) during office hours, for their verification and replacement,” the central bank noted.

Last year, a batch of P100 bills was also misprinted with the face of President Roxas left blank. (GMA News)
