Capiz now has coffee techno demo farm

ROXAS City – A ceremonial planting of coffee seedlings was recently conducted by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Capiz Provincial Training Center (PTC) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture in Western Visayas and Sigma municipal government at the techno demo farm in Brgy. Mianay in Sigma town.

A total of 1,200 robusta coffee seedlings were planted in the 1.5-hectare demo farm of TESDA Capiz PTC that will serve as the learning site for robusta coffee production in the province.

β€œRest assured of DA-WV’s support in this endeavor. Our department, together with TESDA, will go hand in hand to make this undertaking of robusta coffee production – from seed to cup – a reality in the Capiz province,” said DA-WV senior agriculturist Carmelita Fantilanan.

During the activity, DA-regional coffee coordinator Jairus Sirue discussed the proper production management technology and competitive advantage of robusta variety in the area.

The article added that TESDA, DA, LGUs, and other stakeholders are now preparing the groundworks for massive coffee planting in Capiz beginning 2021.

The plan also included the expansion of techno-demo site in Tapaz town.

TESDA Capiz provincial director Abdel Hajan said the center envisioned a successful robusta coffee project that is geared towards helping the local coffee farmers.

On the other hand, Sigma mayor Christopher Andaya expressed his support in advocating the potentials of coffee farming in the province.

The DA Research Outreach Stations in Sigma and Dumarao towns will provide additional coffee seedlings for the project.(with reports from PIA-6/PN
