LOVE and kindness still prevail in this time of COVID-19.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Western Visayas through its DENR Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DEMCO), recently spearheaded a relief operation dubbed as “Bulig Kontra COVID-19” to help alleviate the economic impact of the crisis among upland beneficiaries.
DEMCO was able to distribute the following: thirty one (31) sacks of rice valued at P51,150; canned goods worth P12,450, which include sardines and corned beef and shrimp paste (bagoong) worth P4,000.
No amount of heat, rain or exhaustion from it could deter the DEMCO team, namely: DEMCO Chairman Apolinario Corbal, NGP Coordinator Fred Canto, Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO) Chief Artemio Salvador Colacion, Forester Mekrinke Ballejera (DEMCO Treasurer) Hajie Baraquia (DEMCO Manager), and Forest Extension Officer John Christian Amores to set foot in Maasin town where beneficiaries have converged to received the relief goods.
Recipients of the relief goods are Community-Based Forest Management People’s Organization (CBFM PO) members and National Greening Program (NGP) beneficiaries in barangays Linab and Punong in Maasin, Iloilo; and barangays Bugang, Bagsakan and Punong in Alimodian, Iloilo.
This was the second leg of the “Bulig Kontra COVID-19”by the DEMCO, which provided great relief to upland beneficiaries in Maasin and Alimodian. The first one was the rice pack distribution among DENR 6 employees.
“Showing kindness by providing food packs in this time of crisis does not only help to alleviate economic hardship. It also promotes trust and confidence and unite people in love – this is one important we need right now to survive this pandemic,” said Francisco E.
