Driver yields P1.4 million worth of illegal drugs in Arevalo

ILOILO City — A jeepney driver was arrested during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sto. Niño Norte, Arevalo district.

The 55-year-old alias “Metchut” was immediately caught after he sold suspected shabu worth P12,500 to a poseur buyer on January 16.

Seized from the suspect were 15 plastic sachets of suspected shabu, including the buy-bust item, weighing around 215 grams and with an estimated street value of P1,462,000, and the buy-bust money.

Operatives from the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) carried out the operation following reports of rising drug-related incidents in the Arevalo area.

Metchut, police said, was suspected of selling illegal drugs in the district for the past four months.

He was detained at the Arevalo police station, facing charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police officials hailed the arrest as a significant success in the fight against illegal drugs in Iloilo City and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the community from substance abuse.

Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and actively support efforts to maintain a safe, drug-free environment./PN
