THE RHYTHMIC thunder of drums and chants reverberated across Iloilo City as the opening salvo of the 2026 Dinagyang Festival’s Ati tribes competition unfolded on January 11, 2026, formally ushering in another vibrant season of faith, culture, and spectacle.
The opening performances started at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, followed by a second round at the Iloilo Sports Complex, drawing thousands of spectators eager to witness the first face-off among the competing tribes.
Leading the lineup was Tribu Bulawanon sang Molo, which set a celebratory tone through a performance deeply rooted in Molo district’s cultural heritage. This was followed by Tribu Taga-Baryo of Barangay Bo. Obrero, Lapuz, whose routine highlighted community life and shared devotion. Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National High School came next, delivering historical depth and disciplined choreography that resonated strongly with the audience.
Momentum continued as Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School presented a performance centered on unity and faith. Tribu Ilayanhon of Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School followed, captivating spectators with youthful vigor and expressive storytelling. Tribu Salognon of Jaro National High School then took the stage with an artistic, rhythm-driven presentation, before Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial High School closed the opening salvo with a powerful and dynamic routine.
The opening salvo offered an early glimpse of the creativity, devotion, and competitive spirit expected in this year’s Ati tribes competition. Festival organizers reminded the public that the final and most anticipated performances are set for January 25, 2026, marking one of the major highlights of the Dinagyang Festival./PN
