BACOLOD City – A farmer fatally shot another in Barangay Amayco, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Murcia police chief Senior Inspector Ronald Santillan identified the victim as the 45-year-old resident Jonathan Aparel.
Aparel sustained a gunshot wound on the chest and was rushed to the Murcia Infirmary Clinic where the attending physician pronounced him “dead on arrival,” a police report showed.
The suspect, 78-year-old Isidro Salazar, also a resident of the village, fled after the shooting and was still at large, police said.
Investigation revealed that Aparel was repairing the drainage in his farm when Salazar fired at him.
Village official Emilio Colangco said he heard two gunshots and went to the area where they originated.
Upon reaching the area, Colangco met Salazar and the latter pointed a gun at him, police said.
The incident happened around 5:15 on Nov. 2.
Land conflict was the motive in the shooting, police said.
