ILOILO City – A fishpond caretaker and his grandson drowned in a 12-foot deep fishpond in Barangay Maindang, Cuartero, Capiz.
Patronio Belardo and his five-year-old grandson Nathan Belardo were declared dead at the Sen. Gerardo M. Roxas Memorial District Hospital after they were fished out of the pond on Monday night.
Belardo went to the fishpond with his grandson around 6 p.m. supposedly to feed the fishes.
When they failed to return home, Belardo’s wife Aurora decided to fetch them. But the only thing she found were two pairs of slippers floating in the fishpond. Worried, she asked help from neighbors.
Belardo and Nathan were fished out of the pond and taken to the hospital where Dr. Glady Faeldonea, the attending physician, declared them “dead on arrival.”/PN
