ILOILO City – Amid the coronavirus pandemic, fisherfolks from Iloilo City received 10 fiberglass reinforced plastic boats from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 6 and Department of Agriculture-Office of Assistant Secretary for Visayas under the government’s National Fisheries Program.

BFAR 6 Planning Officer Joel Abalayan said the beneficiaries came from five coastal villages of the city namely, Sto. Nino Norte, Sto. Nino Sur, Calaparan, Calumpang and San Juan.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas and the beneficiaries received the boats worth P60,000 each from DA-Office of Assistant Secretary for Visayas Hansel Didulo and BFAR 6 Director Remia Aparri during the turnover ceremony held at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand last Sept. 22.

Treñas said the initiative aims to deliver support for capacity enhancement to the local fisherfolk and to promote modernization of fisheries practices that will eventually help them to cope with financial challenges brought about by the economic crisis.(PIA6 Iloilo/PN)
