ILOILO City – Fire razed a commercial building in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay, Iloilo yesterday. Around P2.4 million worth of properties went up in smoke.

The two-storey building was owned by businessman Neil Yu.

According to Fire Officer Nathaniel Colacion of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), they received a fire call from a concerned citizen around 2:14 p.m. The fire was gutting the second floor of the building when they reached the area.

Firefighters from Janiuay, Calinog, Cabatuan, and Maasin towns responded. A “fire out” was declared two hours later.

No casualties were reported, Colacion said.

“The second floor of the building was totally burned, but the merchandise located oin the ground floor was not affected,” he told Panay News.

The BFP has yet to establish the cause of the fire, although witnesses claimed that smoke came from an air-conditioner on the second floor.

“We are still conducting an investigation.  We are advising the public to always check your electrical connections to avoid fire,” Colacion stressed./PN
