MALAY, Aklan – During the onslaught of Typhoon “Jolina” on Sept. 7, 114 people (35 families) here moved to evacuation centers.
These people were residents of low-lying areas in barangays Manocmanoc (Malabunot), Napaan, Nabaoy, Sambiray, Cubay Sur, Argao, Balabag, Yapak, and Motag.
They received food assistance from the local government, according to Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Catherine Fulgencio.
Flashflooding was reported in Sitio Diniwid, Barangay Balabag, Napaan-Nabaoy boundary and Barangay Yapak but eventually subsided.
The state weather bureau hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over the northern portion of Aklan on Sept. 8.
“May mga minor landslides and clearing operations para makadaan ang mga sasakyan,” Fulgencio said.
In a related news, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Buruanga town reported a landslide in Barangay Panilongan due to moderate to heavy rains.
Three families were also rescued in Sitio Badak, Barangay El Progreso on Sept. 8 from flooding brought by a heavy downpour./PN
