AKLAN – A warehouse storing motorcycle parts, vehicle maintenance supplies, and other equipment was destroyed by fire in Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan, early Monday morning, August 10.
FO2 Baldomero Imperial III, fire arson investigator of the Kalibo Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), said firefighters received a call from the 911 BFP Western Visayas Command Center at about 2:21 a.m. regarding the fire.
Kalibo BFP personnel immediately responded and conducted an assessment and firefighting operations to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby areas.
The one-story warehouse had an estimated floor area of 80 square meters. It was used to store motor vehicle maintenance items, spare parts, and other equipment and also served as a parking garage and working area.
Because the structure was made of mixed materials, the entire warehouse was destroyed by the fire.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Initial damage was estimated at P120,000, although the amount could increase should the owner submit an Affidavit of Loss.
The Aklan Filipino Chinese Action Group (AFCAG) and Kalibo police also assisted in the response.
Imperial said the fire may have started from an L300 van parked inside or near the warehouse, but the exact cause remains under investigation./PN
