MANILA – The father of Cebu City road rage suspect David Lim Jr. was involved in a hit-and-run incident more than two weeks ago, police said.
Fish vendor Philip Pogoy was killed when David Lim Sr.’s Nissan GT sports car crashed into the former’s motorcycle in Cebu on March 4, said Police Regional Office 7 director Chief Superintendent Noli Taliño.
Now facing a reckless imprudence resulting to homicide charge, Lim Sr. is seeking a settlement with the Pogoy family, Taliño said.
Around 3 a.m. on March 19, Lim Jr. shot nurse Ephraim Nuñal along F. Sotto Street, Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.
Lim Jr.’s camp said Nuñal tried to attack the suspect and prompted the latter to act on self-defense. A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, was cut short to make it appear Lim Jr. was the aggressor, they said.
Lim Sr. is the brother of Peter Lim, whom President Rodrigo Duterte tagged as the Visayan drug lord “Jaguar.”
Police filed frustrated murder charges against Lim Jr. before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.
Nuñal requested that a frustrated murder charge be filed instead of frustrated homicide, said Superintendent Ryan Devaras, chief of the Cebu City Police Office’s (CCPO) Investigation and Detection Management Bureau.
Lim surrendered to Taliño around 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
Nuñal, who suffered gunshot wounds on the left thigh and right ankle, is on stable condition in a hospital in Cebu City.
The case was assigned to Assistant City Prosecutor Maria Theresa Casiño.
Lim was taken past 5 p.m. on Tuesday to the CCPO holding cell on Gorordo Avenue where he will be detained until the inquest proceeding is completed and he can post bail. (With Philippine News Agency/PN)
