BACOLOD City – A 49-year-old man charged with violating the Anti-Fencing Law was arrested in Barangay Caliling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
Ernesto Sinco – resident of the village – was taken to the municipal police station around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 18, a police report showed.
Presidential Decree 1612 or the Anti-Fencing Law of 1979 criminalizes the buying and/or selling of stolen items.
Section 2 of this law defines “fencing” as the “act of any person who, with intent to gain for himself or for another, shall buy, receive, possess, keep, acquire, conceal, sell or dispose of, or shall buy and sell, or in any other manner deal in any article, item, object or anything of value which he knows, or should be known to him, to have been derived from the proceeds of the crime of robbery or theft.”
Policemen of Cauayan served Sinco a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Rodney Magbanua of the Regional Trial Court Branch 61 dated Dec. 16, 2020.
Magbanua recommended P72,000 bail bond for the suspect’s temporary liberty./PN
