ANTIQUE — A confrontation between a resident and a barangay tanod turned fatal in Barangay Mag-aba, Pandan town.
The victim, identified only as alias “Wilson,” was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after being stabbed in the abdomen.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on June 28. The suspect, a 56-year-old tanod identified by the alias “Jo,” was conducting a routine patrol in the area when he caught and scolded a group of youth playing online games.
Witness accounts state that Wilson, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, approached the suspect and hurled offensive words at him. A heated argument ensued between the two men.
The altercation quickly escalated when Wilson allegedly punched the suspect and struck him with a bamboo stick. In response, the tanod retaliated by stabbing the former in the stomach.
Local authorities, meanwhile, suspect that a long-standing personal grudge may have fueled the violent encounter.
As of this writing, the suspect was detained at the Pandan Municipal Police Station for proper legal disposition and the filing of appropriate charges./PN
