BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is considering launching a road safety information campaign in response to an increase in road accidents and in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.

Police Colonel Leo Pamittan, director of NOCPPO, plans to collaborate with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and local government units across the province to enhance road safety awareness.

He noted the lack of road safety signs in some areas of the province, linking this deficiency to a rise in fatal accidents, especially at night and during adverse weather conditions.

To mitigate road accidents, he directed police commanders to increase police presence on highways.

Additionally, in light of the ongoing sugar milling season, Pamittan has emphasized the strict enforcement of overloading and height restrictions for cane trucks and haulers.

Current regulations permit cane trucks to load sugarcane up to 14 feet above the ground.

He also stressed the importance of sufficient lighting on cane trucks and haulers to prevent accidents. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
