ILOILO City – The Archdiocese of Jaro has called on Ilonggos to take a public stand against corruption and political dynasties by joining a prayer rally on February 25, marking the 40th anniversary of the historic EDSA People Power Revolution.
Framing the event as a faith-driven response to what it described as growing impunity and entrenched political control, the archdiocese urged the faithful to gather under the banner: “Tayo ang People Power Laban sa KORAPSYON at DINASTIYA!”
The mobilization will begin at St. Clement’s Church and culminate at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral.
“On the 40th anniversary of EDSA, the Ilonggo spirit of courage and faith calls us once again. We invite every nation-loving Ilonggo to join the Commission on Laity for a prayerful mobilization as we respond to the CBCP’s challenge to fight impunity together. Let us raise our voices against the shadows of corruption and the grip of political dynasties. Together, we are the living testament of hope for our country,” part of the invitation from the Archdiocese of Jaro stated.
The February 25 activities will open with a 2 p.m. Novena to the Mother of Perpetual Help at St. Clement’s Church, followed by a 3 p.m. Procession of Faith to Jaro Cathedral.
At 4 p.m., a Holy Mass will be celebrated at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral, to be presided over by Archbishop Midyphil B. Billones, DD, with concelebrating priests.
Participants are encouraged to wear plain white shirts as a symbol of their “collective desire for purity and transparency in governance.”
“The fight against corruption begins with a heart that refuses to remain silent,” the archdiocese added.
The archdiocese also called on all parishes to organize and mobilize their communities for the February 25 event, positioning the prayer rally as both a commemoration of EDSA and a renewed moral call for clean governance and political reform./PN
