THE PHILIPPINE Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) expressed its gratitude to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla for amplifying the concerns of Filipino patients, noting that his support reinforces the agency’s long-standing commitment to ensuring members receive their full entitled benefits.
Record-breaking support for Filipino families
PhilHealth reported a significant surge in financial assistance, paying out P300.45 billion in benefits over the past year — a staggering 81.72% increase from the previous period.
“Every peso represents a family we were able to stand beside as partners in health,” PhilHealth stated. “The corporation remains dedicated to expanding benefits and strengthening billing transparency for every Filipino family.”
As part of its proactive monitoring, PhilHealth is currently investigating reported discrepancies between the coverage information provided to patients and the actual claims submitted by healthcare providers.
“We are reinforcing our auditing systems and deepening coordination with oversight bodies and healthcare providers,” the agency added. “Our goal is to ensure members always receive accurate and transparent information regarding their benefits.”
Understanding your rights to healthcare
Under the Universal Health Care (UHC) Law, every Filipino is entitled to PhilHealth benefits covering primary care, emergency services, and inpatient/outpatient procedures. To ensure transparency, PhilHealth encourages members to:
* Consult hospital staff: Ask the medical care team for a breakdown of PhilHealth coverage for specific cases.
* Utilize digital tools: Android users can download the PhilHealth Search ACR app to look up specific case rates.
* Seek on-site assistance: Contact PhilHealth Cares (PCARES) representatives stationed in hospitals for immediate guidance.
* Review bills: Request an itemized bill and verify PhilHealth deductions before settling any hospital accounts.
Your voice matters
PhilHealth emphasized that member reports are vital to improving the system. Feedback directly supports the agency’s ongoing reviews to create a healthcare environment that is responsive and protective of all citizens.
