MANILA – Filipino boxer John Vincent Moralde suffered a devastating first round stoppage defeat to Mexican Jose Enrique Vivas at the bubble of the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States on Saturday night (Sunday in the Philippines).
The Davaoeño Moralde was actually the aggressor early in the match as he landed nice jabs against Vivas, but the latter found his groove and sent the Filipino to the canvas with a left to the face.
With Moralde already wobbly, Vivas went for the kill as he connected with two wicked body shots that sent the Filipino down anew. The referee immediately stopped the fight after seeing Moralde grimacing in pain.
With the defeat, the 26-year-old Moralde saw his boxing record drop to 23-4-0, including 13 stoppage wins while the 26-year-old Vivas improved his slate to 20-1-0, with 11 knockout wins.
At the Manual Artime Community Center Theater in Miami, Florida, United States, Moralde’s fellow boxers Mark Bernaldez and Jameson Bacon scored impressive wins.
Bernaldez scored three knockdowns before finally stopping Julian Evaristo Aristule in three rounds while Bacon made a triumphant US debut when he finished off Argentinean Gonzalo Carlos Dallera in two rounds./PN
