MANILA – San Miguel Beermen has lost another key cog to its title-retention aspiration with Terrence Romeo being ruled out for the rest of the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup due to a shoulder injury.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria said Romeo will be out for six to eight weeks after dislocating his right shoulder during their 107-88 loss to TNT Tropang Giga on Friday evening.
“Unfortunately, he’ll be out for the rest of the tournament because the diagnosis is he’ll miss six to eight weeks to rehabilitate and strengthen his shoulder,” he said.
“He’s very frustrated. He was asking me ‘Coach, why me and why now?’ because he really prepared for this conference,” added Austria, who is counting on free agent signee Angelo Alolino and rookie Wendelino Comboy to step up on offense.
Romeo was the third player to bow out this conference with Beermen June Mar Fajardo out of the PBA Bubble due to an injury and Matthew Ganuelas-Rosser stranded in the United States.
“It’s another big challenge for us,” Austria said. “Our core is not getting any younger and our big man, Mo (Tautuaa), is still trying to get adjusted to his new role as primary big man but we still believe in each other and we’ll still do our best to defend the championship.”
The Beermen are currently on two-game losing skid as it dropped to 1-2 (W-L). Their next game is against lowly TerraFirma Dyip (0-2) on Monday night./PN
