MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers kept its unbeaten record in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference via a 25-23, 28-26, 26-24 sweep of PacificTown-Army Lady Troopers at the San Juan Arena.
Alyssa Valdez top-scored with 18 points built on 16 attacks while Jessica Galanza had double-double 14 points and 14 excellent receptions.
The Cool Smashers cruised to its seventh straight win.
Kyle Negrito was also efficient with 18 excellent sets as the defending champions Cool Smashers missed the services of top setter Julia Morado due to gastroenteritis.
After close calls in the first two sets, the Cool Smashers was threatened in the third frame. It trailed 5-12 but managed to claw its way back behind Valdez and Galanza for a 19-all score.
The Lady Troopers surged to a 22-19 edge before Valdez spearheaded another Cool Smashers run for a 24-all count. Valdez then went through the block, and Pau Soriano sealed the match with a quick attack.
Guimaras native Jovelyn Gonzaga top-scored with 10 markers, off eight attacks, a block, and an ace, while also have 16 excellent digs as the Lady Troopers dropped to 2-3.
Meanwhile, BanKo-Perlas Lady Spikers cruised to a 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12 conquest of Bali Pure Purest Water Defenders. Angelique Gervacio had 19 points for the winning team./PN
