ILOILO City – Data from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) showed a 20-percent drop in cases of rape this January (16 incidents recorded) from the same month last year (20 cases).

According to Patrolman Erwin Magarzo, IPPO spokesperson, most victims were below 18 years old.

The towns that reported the most cases (two each) were Banate and Dumangas and the component city of Passi.

“Most suspects were the victims’ relatives,” Magarzo said.

He reminded parents to guide their children, especially those confined in homes due to the pandemic.

“Please tatapa inyo mga kabata-an,” Magarzo said.

The IPPO is also beefing up measures like awareness campaigns against all forms of abuse./PN
