SAN JOSE, Antique – Index crimes in this capital town decreased by 50 percent from March 1 to June 14, 2020 compared to the number of cases recorded in same period last year.
According to San Jose municipal police station’s data, there were six recorded index crimes for the said period.
Index crimes refers to murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, motor napping, and other special complex crimes.
Major Benjo Clarite, officer-in-charge chief of the municipal police station, highlighted this notable decrease of crime volume and attributed it to the declaration of enhanced community quarantine last March 2020 to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“We have our declaration of curfew and movement restrictions, so those have contributed to the decrease of crime incidence” Clarite said.
Traffic incidents have also reduced due to the implementation of “Oplan Disiplina.”
Based on the three-year comparative statistics of the police station here, there were only eight traffic incidents recorded for the period of March 1 to June 14, 2020 as compared to the same period in 2019 and 2018 which recorded 11 and 41 traffic incidents, respectively.
Meanwhile, Clarite cautioned the residents to drink moderately now that the liquor ban has been lifted.
“Drink moderately and avoid creating disturbance, and alarm and scandal to our neighbors or fellows,” he emphasized.
Clarite further appealed to the people of this capital town to be cooperative with the policies set to create a harmonious and peaceful community amidst the battle against COVID-19.
Wearing of face masks in public, following the curfew, applying physical distancing, and staying at home except during emergency cases are part of the pertinent rules relating to curb COVID-19.(With a report from PIA/PN)
