ROXAS City – A rape suspect from Sapian, Capiz was arrested in Purok Gracia Villa, Barangay Zone 1, Koronadal City, South Cotabato, police said.
He was the 79-year-old Eduardo Beljera, the No. 7 most wanted person in the Sapian police station.
Beljera was caught around 1 p.m. on Saturday on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Ignacio Alajar of the Regional Trial Court Branch 18 in Roxas City.
Koronadal City police chief Superintendent Benjiel Kirby Bajo said Beljera faces a charges for raping a minor in Sapian in October 2010.
“Based on the information we received, he eventually settled with his relatives [in Koronadal],” added Bajo.
Joint elements of the South Cotabato Police Provincial Office, Koronadal City police station and Sapian police station staged Beljera’s arrest.
Beljera was currently under the custody of the Koronadal City police, awaiting court order for his transfer to Sapian.
No bail bond was recommended for his temporary liberty. (With a report from PNA/PN)
