SSS: ‘RACE’ seeks to aid, not threaten businesses

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Social Security System (SSS) has clarified that its Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign intends not to threaten employers but to provide them with options in settling employee contributions.

The RACE campaign intends to provide options in settling employee contributions, like the Pandemic Relief and Restructuring Program (PRRP) 3 that is only until Nov. 21, 2022, stressed SSS Visayas West 2 Division Acting Vice President Angelo Blancaver during the conduct of RACE in Antique on Aug. 16.

“Our visit is not to close down their business nor to stop their operations. In fact, we want their businesses to grow and flourish as it is healthy to the economy,” Blancaver said.

He added that this initiative is to protect working Filipinos as SSS provides seven benefits to its members, such as maternity leave, retirement, death, permanent disability, funeral, sickness, and the newest addition unemployment insurance.

Blancaver also urged employees not to falter and report non-compliance on premium contributions as it is their right under the social security law.

Officials from SSS conducted a surprise visit to six business establishments in the capital town of San Jose that failed to complete their employees’ premium contributions and presented them with a show cause order.

The non-compliant businesses were given 15 days to justify their contribution delinquencies in SSS Antique branch and were reminded of their responsibilities to their employees under Republic Act 11999 or the Social Security Act of 2018.

On the other hand, Legal Division head lawyer Bernardo Dofitas Jr. from the same division said that the campaign ultimately aims create a climate of compliance with the law, instead of a climate of fear as seen by some.

During the activity, Dofitas noted that the establishments were very receptive, accommodating and willing to comply with the regulations of the state insurer.

Meanwhile, SSS Antique branch manager Phillip Lucero enjoined Antiqueños to register their accounts online via my.sss and explore the platform to check records, file loans, and avail of other services at their own comfort.

SSS will have the second round of its RACE campaign in Antique in September. (PIA-Antique/PN)
