BACOLOD City – Several vendors and stall owners at the Central Market and the Manokan Country requested for a public hearing regarding their outstanding arrears with the city government.
Manokan Country Vendors’ Association president David Montoya wrote Councilor Bartolome Orola, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on markets and slaughterhouse, on July 20 asking to hear their concerns.
Members of the Bacolod Central Market Association also wrote city hall, saying they cannot yet pay their balances due to financial setbacks.
“We are asking for the help of our dear mayor to condone the penalties and surcharges,” read part of their letter.
They are “fully aware” of their outstanding balances, which include monthly rental fees, penalties and surcharges, the vendors said.
The Commission on Audit released last month the names of 26 Manokan Country stall owners with outstanding arrears with the local government.
In a meeting, City Administrator John Orola asked the Manokan and public market stall owners to settle their P6.8-million accounts.
Failure to do so before the MassKara Festival this October will cause the closure of their stalls, Orola warned./PN
