BACOLOD City – The city of Victorias in Negros Occidental celebrates its 25th Charter anniversary and Kadalag-an Festival.
Tomorrow, March 21, is a special non-working holiday pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 9643 to commemorate the locality’s ascension from being a municipality into a city.
“Kadalag-an”, in Hiligaynon, means victory.
Mayor Javi Benitez said the silver Kadalag-an Festival marks a historic milestone for the city and its victories against adversity.
Victorias became a component city through the promulgation of RA 8488 on Feb. 11, 1998.
“This year’s festivity will not only be a celebration of its silver anniversary, but it will also be its epic and grandest comeback after the global health crisis. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic may have toned down the fun, but this year Victorias won’t hold back in bringing more electrifying festive feeling to every Victoriahanon,” Benitez said.
On Saturday, March 18, Miss Kyla Rose Romarate was crowned as the new Kadalag-an Sidlak Queen.
The coronation night was hosted by Miss Universe-Philippines 4th runner-up Bellie Hakenson and actor Marco Gumabao. Miss International 2016 Kylie Versoza and actor Daniel Matsunaga served as judges, and celebrity couple Sarah Geronimo and Mateo Guidicelli were also guests.
Benitez said police and military personnel were deployed in the city to secure peace and order at all festival sites./PN
