
ILOILO – Two separate road accidents involving motorcycles in the neighboring towns of Santa Barbara and Pavia left a woman dead and a man injured.
In Santa Barbara, 53-year-old Ma. Louisa Calmita succumbed to fatal injuries while crossing Merlo Street, Barangay Zone IV at around 5:10 a.m. on Dec. 29, 2021.
She got hit by a motorcycle driven by 22-year-old Jose Jay Tatud, a resident of Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City.
Calmita expired while being rushed to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Tatud was detained at the Santa Barbara police station. A complaint for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide would be filed against him.
Some 16 hours later, in the adjacent town of Pavia, a man believed to be reeking with alcohol sustained injuries from a road mishap in Barangay Cabugao Sur.
Gabby Pescadera was from Barangay Cayan Oeste, Lambunao, Iloilo and was driving his motorcycle.
According to the police, the homebound Pescadera crashed his motorcycle against a road barricade and fell down.
Pescadera sustained cuts and bruises on his mouth, legs and arms./PN
