CAPIZ – In a bid to strengthen local agriculture and provide alternative livelihoods for farmers, the provincial government here turned over a P1-million water refilling station with a delivery vehicle to the Agma-Agca Corn Cluster Association in Barangay Agdahon, Cuartero, on August 20, 2025.
The project, implemented through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) under the Sustainable Livelihood Program, aims to create additional income streams for farmers while ensuring access to safe drinking water in the community.
Traditionally reliant on corn farming, members of the association now have an alternative and stable source of livelihood that can help cushion the impact of climate-related challenges on agricultural production.
During the turnover ceremony, Cuartero’s Mayor Stephen Openiano expressed his gratitude to the provincial government for its continuing support to farmers.
Association president Ruben Campaniel also underscored the importance of the initiative, especially during times when extreme weather conditions threaten crop yields and farmer incomes.
Among those present at the ceremony were Provincial Consultant and former Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia dela Cruz, Provincial Board member Gilbert Ardivilla, Vice Mayor Abner Falcis, local officials of Cuartero, and Barangay Captain Sergie Davdivas with his council, whose attendance highlighted strong community support for the project.
Gov. Fredenil H. Castro said the initiative is expected not only to improve the economic resilience of farmers but also to uplift the quality of life of the people in Barangay Agdahon, paving the way for more sustainable agricultural practices./PN
